Graduate Program Financial Information
Assistantships
Microbiology graduate students are typically provided assistantships to support them during their graduate study. This support may be research or teaching assistantships, with the latter offering students the opportunity to develop their teaching skills. All applicants are automatically considered for Microbiology program support, university fellowships, and assistantships provided by individual faculty grants and by the microbiology teaching program. Upon acceptance, students may be offered the opportunity to perform short-term research projects (i.e., rotations) in several laboratories to help them select a faculty advisor, or may be offered admission directly into the laboratory of a faculty member.
Fellowships
The following are fellowships that are available to Microbiology students:
Biotechnology Scholorships - one-year scholarships that are awarded on a competitive basis to students with appropriate interests at ISU.
Plant Science Institute (PSI) Fellowships - four-year fellowships that are awarded on a competitive basis to students interested in research related to plant sciences or plant health.
For further information about research or support contact

Although the university charges tuition and fees for graduate students, all or a majority of the cost of tuition is covered for most Microbiology students. For current information on tuition and fees, please refer to the
University Registrar website. For 2007-2008, all PhD students on assistantships will receive a Tuition Scholarship of 100% of the cost of tuition. All MS students on assistantships will receive a Tuition Scholarship of at least 50% of the cost of tuition.
