Clifford A. Shillinglaw Memorial Scholarship
Interdepartmental Microbiology (IM) Program, Iowa State University

    Selection Criteria: The foremost criterion will be academic standing and/or potential for a career in microbiology. All qualified students are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students with interests and/or career goals in areas of microbiology allied with chemical engineering. Preference will be given to students who have not recieved a microbiology scholarship previously.
    Selection Process: The Program Supervisory Committee will review the applications. The Committee will, after evaluation of the application material (and at the Committee's discretion, conduct interviews with the applicant and/or the applicant's advisor) make its final recommendation(s).
    Award: The winner(s) will be given the award during the first award semester. The scholarship ($500) is to be used for tuition and class expenses, such as laboratory fees, textbooks, etc.
   Application: All scholarship applications are due February 29, 2008. You may type your information in a word processing program to take advantage of tools such as spell check. Please use a 12 pt type face on two pages at most with your name on each page. All items listed below are required together with a current copy of the your degree audit submitted seperately. Mail or deliver to the Interdepartmental Microbiology Program, 207 Science I, Iowa State University, 50011-3211.
    Or you may submit your application as an attachment to an E-mail where the subject line of the E-mail should show the scholarship name and the text should include your name, address, and phone number. Send the E-mail plus attached scholarship application to the microbiology advisor (microundergrad@iastate.edu). Submit directly item #8 clearly marked as part of your scholarship application to the Interdepartmental Microbiology Program, 207 Science I, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011-3211.

 8.  Provide a current copy of your degree audit.

 9.  Provide a list of courses that you plan to take in the areas of Microbiology, Chemsitry, and Biology that are not on your degree audit.

10.  Provide a brief essay describing your professional and career goals (approximately 300 words).
